Darrell and I first met over 10 years ago when I was interviewing for a position with him at another company.
I'd been taking the summer off and looking for a new job (well kinda' looking. really my priority that summer was working on my tan and hanging out with my 5 year old daughter). Anyways, the interview was going fine until he asked if I could file. I answered honestly, "I can. but I won't".
Needless to say, a mutual respect, common understanding and a great working relationship was born. Not long after, however, we were both suffocating from tedium and constraint, neither of us seemed to "fit the mold", so rebels that we were, we decided to open our own insurance firm, where we would hire like-minded people, who had personalities and cared about much more than just the sale. And so Executive Strategies was born.
I became team captain and Darrell became rainmaker and our new organization was built on integrity; we put our clients' needs ahead of dollar signs. We wanted to build relationships with our clients and become trusted advisors as opposed to the typical experience of just hearing from the insurance person once a year when the policy needed renewal.
Well, all these years later we've amassed an exceptional staff and stayed true to our vision, and I am proud to continue in my role as team captain and master of ceremonies. My focus is more on the business rather than in the business; client relations and employee relations are my forte. For instance, when we talk about health and wellness and investing in the whole person, I want our clients to know we understand what we're talking about. Because we haven't just done the research, we are actively walking the talk in our own offices as "living proof" that these ideals work!
